The Book of Revelation

An Introduction

The Book of Revelation is so often ignored by the church. There are many wild interpretations of this book of prophecy. The book, or more appropriately, the revelation (Greek ἀποκάλυψις, transliterated apokalupsis), actually explains itself.

In the first chapter there are four keys to understanding the book.

  1. It is a revelation
  2. It is a revelation to SEVEN CHURCHES IN ASIA
  3. It is a revelation to seven churches in Asia IN SIGNS
  4. It is a revelation to seven churches in Asia in signs of THINGS THAT MUST SHORTLY TAKE PLACE

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw. Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near. John, to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne,” (Revelation 1:1-4, NKJV).

Join the Church of your choice–what’s implied?

When one hears the statement made: “Join the Church of your choice,” just what does this imply? I believe the main thing that anyone can deduce right off is that this means that Jesus the Christ established more than one Church. Is that biblical?  In Matthew 16:16-18 one reads the following:

“Simon Peter answered and said ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Blessed are you Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter (Petros), and on this rock (petra) I will build My church [singular], and the gates of Hades shall not be victorious against it.”

It seems strange that our Lord bought but one church with His blood yet so many “Christian” churches exist today.

In my next post we will explore the biblical use of the word “church.”

Has Something Changed?

I have been doing a lot of reading and studying and have discovered something very odd. There are some people who are teaching that the Scriptures have changed or must change in order to be relevant in this twenty-first century.  I do not understand where this idea comes from. It is my understanding that truth is neither subjective nor does it change.

Jesus makes very clear  that the word of God (i.e., Scripture) is truth when in John 17 verse 17 He says: “Sanctify them by Your [God] truth. Your word is truth.” It thus behooves us to read and study the Scriptures so that we may objectively know how to obey God Almighty.
