Join the Church of your choice–what’s implied?

When one hears the statement made: “Join the Church of your choice,” just what does this imply? I believe the main thing that anyone can deduce right off is that this means that Jesus the Christ established more than one Church. Is that biblical?  In Matthew 16:16-18 one reads the following:

“Simon Peter answered and said ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Blessed are you Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter (Petros), and on this rock (petra) I will build My church [singular], and the gates of Hades shall not be victorious against it.”

It seems strange that our Lord bought but one church with His blood yet so many “Christian” churches exist today.

In my next post we will explore the biblical use of the word “church.”

Has Something Changed?

I have been doing a lot of reading and studying and have discovered something very odd. There are some people who are teaching that the Scriptures have changed or must change in order to be relevant in this twenty-first century.  I do not understand where this idea comes from. It is my understanding that truth is neither subjective nor does it change.

Jesus makes very clear  that the word of God (i.e., Scripture) is truth when in John 17 verse 17 He says: “Sanctify them by Your [God] truth. Your word is truth.” It thus behooves us to read and study the Scriptures so that we may objectively know how to obey God Almighty.
